Your eyes may be deceiving you.
The internet was set ablaze on Monday, May 5, after K-Pop star Lisa Manobal arrived at the 2025 Met Gala in a pair of black tights and cheeky undies. From afar, the Louis Vuitton lingerie appeared normal, but zooming in, faces designed into the lace bodysuit could be seen.
Some social media users speculated that the faces resembled civil rights activist Rosa Parks. However, that may not be the case.

According to Vogue, artist Henry Taylor embroidered portraits into her ensemble. Taylor was previously commissioned by Pharrell Williams, Louis Vuitton’s men’s creative director and 2025 Met Gala cochair, to embroider the same design for the brand’s Men’s Spring-Summer 2024 show. For the design’s debut, they were stitched onto suits and accessories.
According to a statement by Louis Vuitton, the lace depicts “portraits of figures who have been a part of the artist’s life.” Though it did not clarify if any famous faces were included.
The White Lotus star’s entire outfit included a form-fitting black blazer with sheer panels. Lisa accessorized with a black Louis Vuitton purse, black pumps and a pearl chain attached to the bottom of her jacket. Her blonde hair was kept in a voluminous updo with soft and simple makeup to complement.

In October 2024, Vogue shared details on the 2025 Met Gala, announcing that Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour would be co-chairs for the event, alongside LeBron James as honorary chair. The gala, which is held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York on the first Monday in May, is a fundraiser for The Costume Institute and spotlights the museum’s spring 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” the theme for the gala.
Curator in Charge Andrew Bolton said that the exhibit, which is inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, explores “the Black dandy as both a concept and an identity signifier.”
The exhibit “presents a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to the present through an exploration of the concept of dandyism,” according to a post on the museum’s Instagram.
The Met Gala’s dress code for this year is “Tailored for You,” a nod to the exhibition’s focus on menswear and suiting. This year’s event also has a star-studded host committee that includes Simone Biles and her husband, Jonathan Owens, Doechii, Regina King, Spike Lee, Usher and Angel Reese.

The 2025 Met Gala marked Lisa’s debut, but it’s not her first foray into iconic fashion. In March, for the 2025 Oscars, she wore tailored Mark Gong menswear before performing at the Academy Awards.
After the Met Gala, Lisa will reunite with her BLACKPINK members for the group’s tour this summer, which marks their first since their 2023 Born Pink Tour.
